This is an AI generated image of what the new iPhone Fold might look like based on rumours so far. There are three views of an indigo coloured fold phone, one vertical and completely folded up with an iphone 17 pro style camera, one standing vertically, unfolded, and one open horizontally with dark blue swirly patterns on the screen. We think it may be based on the Oppo Ultra thin fold. The background is an ombre blue and turquoise. Thank you for reading 😊

New iPhones are coming… what do you need to know?

Apple is due to release its new Pro line up models in September, following the typical release cycle, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the much anticipated foldable model, rumoured to be called the iPhone Ultra. In a departure from its usual new iPhone season, the ‘normal’ iPhone and the cheaper iPhone 18e are not due for release until March 2027.

The Ultra is anticipated to have a 7.7-inch internal display and book-style design, folding out to look quite similar to an iPad Mini. It’s looking like it could be one of Apple’s most expensive models, with a step up to £1,500 for 256GB.  It is expected to be super slim, perhaps 4.5- 4.8mm when unfolded. While we don’t know exactly what it will look like yet, we’re wondering if it will look anything like the Oppo Ultrathin Foldable, which Dave reviewed recently. A fold can make a very useful business phone with a smooth transition to a larger screen.

What you might notice in this release is the missing base model, the iPhone 18. The base model is usually our best selling model each year, combining functionality with a lower price point than the Pro line up. This model will likely come out in Spring of 2027, possibly alongside the iPhone 18e and the Air 2. Apple are rumoured to be changing the release of the phones to cope with demand, but it will do their income no harm to release the more expensive models first!

With anticipated price increases of £200-300 this year for the models in the Pro range, you could save quite a lot by waiting a while longer, and perhaps taking out a sim only deal until spring if your contract finishes. The iPhone 18 could be the same price as the current iPhone 17 and if you’re wanting to save some money, this might be a clever option.
