5 Money Saving Tips for Businesses and their Mobile Phones

5 Money Saving Tips for Businesses and their Mobile Phones

Company mobile phones are essential tools for businesses, however, the costs associated with providing and maintaining mobile phones for employees can quickly add up. We’ve put together some useful ways to save money on your business mobiles:

Unlimited Data Plans

Choosing a cheaper contract with a monthly data limit rather than an Unlimited Data Plan is sometimes a false economy because of potential overage charges.  If you do have monthly data limits and have no spend cap, then there is the chance of unknowingly going over your data limit and incurring some extra charges.  We wrote an article last year about MSP Michael Matheson, the Scottish Health Secretary, who managed to rack up £10,935.74 of mobile roaming data charges whilst on a week’s family holiday to Morocco.

If you’re interested in how much data you’re using, you can find out by going to Settings > Mobile Data Options, where you can see how much data you have used and which apps are using the bulk of your data.  Big consumers of data tend to be social media apps, Netflix, YouTube, Photos, Safari & Chrome. Unlimited data tariffs avoid any over use of data and can come at an extremely reasonable price.

Stay Away From the Big Hitters

You don’t have to buy an iPhone, there are plenty of high performance mobiles available, and at a fraction of the cost.  Many function at a similar level to the flagship models such as the iPhone or the latest Samsung Galaxy, but perhaps don’t have all the bells and whistles to go with it. We recently reviewed the Redmi Note 13 which has a lot to offer business users with its incredible battery life and great display.  Some of the cheapest phones on the market now have perfectly fine functionality.

The Simpatico business mobiles shop has an extensive range of business phones, which you can tailor to meet your budget requirements.

Consider a SIM-only Deal

If your current device is still functioning perfectly well, but your contract term is up, you don’t necessarily need to upgrade to a new model; you could switch to a SIM only deal, which not only saves your pocket, it is good for the environment too.

Don’t Buy Direct from the Network

You might assume that it’s cheaper to get your business mobiles directly from your network provider, however you could be mistaken.  For example, buying your company phones from 02 business could cost you more. In fact, it’s often cheaper to go through a dealer (such as Simpatico) to purchase your business mobiles, and the same applies to other networks too.

Connect to the Wi-Fi

Make sure your employees connect to the Wi-Fi wherever possible, and ensure your office has a robust and secure Wi-Fi network.   If employees are working remotely or travelling, encourage them to use their home Wi-Fi, or secure public Wi-Fi networks, reducing the amount of mobile data consumed.

When travelling to foreign countries, be aware of what your contract says about roaming charges, and if you’re not sure, simply switch off your mobile data to avoid any hidden travel charges. For more information, read our article here about Hidden Travel Charges and How to Avoid Them.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Review: An overlooked business mobile

Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 Review: An overlooked business mobile

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13, the sucessor to the popular Redmi Note 12, promises a high level of performance, features, and affordability. For businesses who require a reliable and versatile device, the Redmi Note 13 is surprisingly good value. This review examines the device’s suitability as a business mobile, focusing on its performance, connectivity, battery life, security features, and overall value.

Performance

Equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset, the Redmi Note 13 ensures capable performance for handling demanding tasks. Business professionals will appreciate the device’s seamless multitasking ability, whether it’s managing multiple communication channels, running specialised applications, or conducting virtual meetings. The 8GB RAM variant offers ample memory for smooth operation, while the 256GB internal storage provides sufficient space for storing essential business data and applications.

Connectivity

The Redmi Note 13 supports 5G connectivity, ensuring ultra-fast internet speeds; this feature is crucial for people who rely on real-time data transfer, video conferencing, and rapid access to cloud-based resources. Additionally, the dual SIM capability allows users to manage personal and business lines on a single device, enhancing convenience and efficiency. As a business mobile, this dual SIM functionality is particularly valuable for separating work and personal communications.

Battery Life

The Redmi Note 13’s 5000mAh battery is a significant advantage, offering extended usage without the constant need for recharging. The device also supports 33W fast charging, minimising downtime and ensuring that the phone is quickly ready for use after a short charging period. For those who rely on their business mobile throughout the day, this battery performance is a critical feature.

Security Features

Data security is a top priority in any business field. The Redmi Note 13 comes with a suite of security features designed to protect sensitive information. The side-mounted fingerprint sensor provides quick and secure access, while the AI face unlock adds an additional layer of convenience and security. Furthermore, Xiaomi’s MIUI includes various privacy features, such as app lock and secure folder, ensuring that confidential business data remains protected. These features make it a dependable business mobile for safeguarding sensitive information.

Display and Build Quality

The 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED display offers vibrant colours and sharp details, making it ideal for viewing detailed schematics, documents, and multimedia presentations. The high refresh rate of 120Hz ensures smooth scrolling and a responsive user experience. At first glance it could be mistaken for an iPhone 16 with the camera position and straight edges. The device is also splash-resistant, providing a level of durability against everyday mishaps, which is important for a business mobile or in fact any mobile that will be used in lots of different environments.

Software and Usability

The Redmi Note 13 runs on MIUI, Xiaomi’s custom Android skin. MIUI is known for its rich feature set and customisation options, allowing users to tailor the device to their specific needs. Pre-installed business tools and the ability to easily integrate with popular productivity apps like Microsoft Office and Google Workspace enhance the device’s utility in a business context. This flexibility is crucial for a business mobile, ensuring that users can adapt the device to their workflow.

Final Thoughts

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 13 offers a well-rounded package for businesses. Its powerful performance, robust connectivity options, long battery life, and comprehensive security features make it an excellent choice for business usage. While it delivers high-end specifications, it remains affordably priced, providing great value for money. For organisations seeking a reliable and versatile business mobile, the Redmi Note 13 is a good value option that combines efficiency with cutting-edge technology.

How Does it Compare to Top Brands?

When compared to the latest Samsung Galaxy or iPhone 16, the Redmi Note 13 holds its ground remarkably well, especially considering its price point. While the Galaxy and iPhone models may offer superior brand prestige, slightly more advanced processors, and additional premium features, the Redmi Note 13 provides a comparable performance for everyday business tasks at a fraction of the cost. Its battery life, 5G connectivity, and security features are on par with these flagship models, making it an excellent alternative for budget-conscious professionals who do not want to compromise on quality and functionality. As a business mobile, the Redmi Note 13 offers a balance of performance and affordability that is hard to beat.

Pros:

  • Strong performance with MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chipset
  • 5G connectivity and dual SIM support
  • Long-lasting 5000mAh battery with 33W fast charging
  • Comprehensive security features
  • High-quality 6.67-inch AMOLED display

Cons:

eSIMs and their Benefits for Business Mobile Phones

eSIMs and their Benefits for Business Mobile Phones

Eric has recently been interviewed by Techopedia on the benefits of eSIMs, so we thought we would explore them a bit further in this article and look at how they might benefit businesses.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital version of a physical sim card that is embedded directly into a device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or smartwatch. Unlike traditional physical SIM cards, eSIMs are built into the hardware and cannot be removed. In other words, you won’t have to carry a physical SIM card with you to access your phone calls, texts etc.

Availability in the UK

In the UK, eSIM technology is widely supported by major carriers. Leading providers such as Vodafone, EE, O2, and Three offer comprehensive eSIM services, making it an accessible option for businesses looking to enhance their mobile communication infrastructure. For companies running several devices, eSIMs make it much easier to manage contracts, including when the time comes to change providers. No more distributing SIM cards to all of your employees!

Benefits of eSIMs for Businesses

Simplified Management

eSIMs streamline the management of business mobile phones. IT departments can remotely activate and manage eSIMs without needing to distribute physical SIM cards. This reduces logistical challenges and speeds up the deployment of new devices. Even better, when the time comes to change providers businesses will no longer have to physically distribute a SIM card to all employees. This makes them perfect for large teams, those working remotely, and teams spread across a large geographical area.

Flexibility and Convenience

Businesses can switch carriers or plans without physically swapping SIM cards. This is particularly useful for employees who travel frequently, as they can easily switch to local carriers to avoid roaming charges and ensure better connectivity. Conducting international business will not only be easier, but also less expensive.

Cost Savings

By switching carriers and plans remotely, businesses can optimise their mobile phone expenses. They can take advantage of better rates or promotional offers without being tied to a specific carrier’s physical SIM. Whereas before the logistics of companies swapping SIM cards may have outweighed the benefit of cost savings, eSIMs remove that problem.

Enhanced Security

eSIMs offer improved security features. Since they are embedded in the device, they are less prone to theft or tampering. This is crucial for businesses that handle sensitive data and need to ensure secure communication channels. They are also more difficult to lose or damage (we’ve all dropped a tiny SIM card and struggled to find it!)

Multiple Profiles

Typically, phones allow for up to 2 eSIMs, or a physical sim and an eSIM.  However, quite a few Android models have dual sim trays, which offer the same benefit as 2 eSIMs but using physical simsMore than one sim (either eSIM or physical sim) can be beneficial for employees who need separate business and personal lines. This allows businesses to provide a single device for employees who work in multiple regions or countries, simplifying communication and management.

Environmental Benefits

Reducing the need for physical SIM cards and their packaging helps businesses contribute to environmental sustainability. This aligns with corporate social responsibility goals and promotes a greener business operation.

Who Would Benefit The Most From eSIMs

Almost all businesses could receive some benefit from the adoption of eSIM technology. However, we’ve identified some particular use-cases which may see the biggest impact.

Remote Workforce

For businesses with a remote or global workforce, eSIMs enable employees to stay connected without the need for physical SIM swaps. IT can remotely provision services based on the employee’s location and connectivity needs. This offers speed, efficiency and flexibility that physical SIMs cannot match.

Temporary Projects

Businesses running short-term projects in different regions can benefit from eSIMs by providing local connectivity to project teams quickly and efficiently, without the hassle of distributing physical SIMs.

Device Fleets

Companies managing a fleet of mobile devices (e.g., for sales teams, field service engineers) can streamline updates and changes to mobile plans across all devices without needing to collect and replace SIM cards.

Implementation

Ask us about eSIMS if you are interested. All UK networks support eSIMs, but we’ll need to check if your business device is compatible.

eSIM technology offers significant advantages for businesses, from simplified management and enhanced security to cost savings and environmental benefits. As eSIM adoption grows, businesses can leverage this technology to improve their mobile communication infrastructure and support their employees more effectively.

iPhone 16 An Initial Review

iPhone 16 An Initial Review

The iPhone 16 has been garnering a lot of attention for its fresh features and overall improvements, but like any new tech release, it’s not without its criticisms. Here’s a balanced look at what people are saying about the iPhone 16 so far.

Design and Display

The design of the iPhone 16 has been praised for its vibrant new colour options and sleek build. The Pink, Teal, and Ultramarine colours are particularly striking, offering a fresh look compared to the more muted tones of previous models, shop for iPhone colours 16 here.

However, some users are disappointed that the standard models still lack the 120Hz ProMotion (i.e. much faster screen refresh rates and a much smoother visual experience) and Always-On display features found in the Pro models. This absence is particularly noticeable for those who have experienced smoother scrolling and faster refresh rates on other devices.

Innovative Controls

The Action Button is a versatile new addition, replacing the traditional mute switch and allowing for various customizable functions. While many find this feature incredibly useful, some users have found the learning curve a bit steep. Setting up the button to run specific shortcuts can be a bit daunting, especially for those not already familiar with the Shortcuts app

The Camera Control button, which aims to provide a more tactile photography experience, has also received mixed reviews. While its functionality is appreciated, some users have reported that it takes time to get used to the different press intensities required for various actions. There have been complaints about accidental presses, which can lead to unintended actions like zooming when simply trying to take a photo.  Some people have already disabled it because it just gets in the way.  Anecdotally, younger people seem to enjoy the camera button more.

Camera Enhancements

The iPhone 16’s camera system has seen significant upgrades with the new 48-megapixel Fusion main sensor and improved macro photography capabilities. The Spatial Video feature and anti-reflective lens coatings are particularly well-received.

Performance and Features

The new A18 processor and Apple Intelligence features are designed to enhance usability and performance, offering advanced writing tools and live transcription among other capabilities. However Apple Intelligence will not reach us until December 24, so we have no idea what that will be like yet. There are some concerns about the increased storage requirements for photos due to the enhanced photographic styles, so that might become an issue.  Users have commented that battery life is notably better, and that the phone does not overheat.  This may feel like damning with faint praise, but they do make the user experience better.

Overall Impressions

The iPhone 16 is generally well-regarded for its mix of new features and design refinements. The vibrant colour options and innovative controls make it a standout, and the camera improvements are notable. However, the lack of certain premium features in the standard models and the learning curve associated with the new controls have been points of contention. For those coming from older models, the iPhone 16 offers significant upgrades, but for current users of recent Pro models, the changes might not feel as substantial.

Final Thoughts: Innovation and Demand

As Apple continues to roll out new models, the debate about the necessity of big innovations with each release persists. The iPhone 16 showcases incremental but meaningful improvements that enhance user experience without drastically altering the device’s core identity. While some users might yearn for revolutionary changes, it’s important to recognize that Apple’s strategy often focuses on refining existing features and integrating subtle yet impactful enhancements.

These iterative upgrades serve multiple purposes. They not only cater to the loyal Apple customer base who appreciate reliability and familiarity but also attract new users by showcasing steady, reliable advancements. Moreover, incremental improvements help maintain Apple’s reputation for high-quality, user-friendly devices, ensuring consistent demand.

However, the question remains: Is it all to increase demand? Partly, yes. By consistently introducing new features, even if they are minor, Apple keeps its products in the spotlight, stimulating interest and encouraging upgrades. This strategy sustains the brand’s momentum and keeps it competitive in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. While ground breaking innovations might not accompany every new model, the ongoing enhancements ensure that each iteration of the iPhone feels fresh and appealing, driving both sales and user satisfaction.

In essence, Apple’s approach balances the need for innovation with the practicality of delivering a polished, dependable product. This strategy has proven successful so far in keeping the iPhone relevant and desirable year after year.

Why People Still Trust Landline Numbers More—But How VoIP Is Changing the Game

Why People Still Trust Landline Numbers More—But How VoIP Is Changing the Game

In a world where smartphones dominate and the internet drives everything, you might think landline telephones are a relic of the past. Yet, there’s something about seeing a landline number that sparks a sense of trust. Maybe it’s because we’ve been trained to associate them with stability—businesses with physical locations, homes that have been around for a while, or just an extra layer of permanence. But here’s the thing: while landlines hold this aura of reliability, the world of communication has quietly (or not so quietly) transformed, thanks to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol).

Why Do We Still Trust Landline Numbers?

The answer is both simple and psychological. When we see a traditional landline number, it feels official. Businesses that display them seem more “established” and trustworthy, as if having a physical location is proof of their credibility. In contrast, mobile numbers—especially in a professional context—can feel transient, temporary, or even personal.

For older generations, the idea of communicating with a landline carries a nostalgic sense of comfort and security. It’s the phone they grew up with, the one that doesn’t drop calls mid-conversation or lose battery power. Even now, some people equate a landline with quality—crystal-clear audio with no interruptions. It’s a perception that sticks, even though VoIP technology has evolved to rival, if not surpass, traditional telephony in many ways.

The Rise of VoIP: Transforming Communication

VoIP has been the game-changer that most people didn’t even realise was happening. By using the internet to transmit voice calls instead of traditional phone lines, VoIP has made it easier—and cheaper—for businesses and individuals to stay connected. This technology has allowed companies to scale without being tied down to physical locations. You can have a landline number that routes through the internet, which means businesses can appear as though they have a local presence anywhere in the world, even if they’re a small startup working remotely.

Flexibility: Make and Receive Calls Anywhere

One of the greatest perks of VoIP is flexibility. With the right setup, you’re no longer tethered to a desk or office to make or receive calls. Whether you’re at home, in a coffee shop, or halfway around the globe, you can manage business calls on your mobile phone or even your PC. This is particularly useful for companies that have embraced remote or hybrid work environments, where employees are scattered across locations but still need to stay connected.

For personal use, VoIP has also made international calls way more affordable (or free!), especially with apps like Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp. Gone are the days of agonising over your phone bill because you talked too long with a friend or relative abroad.

Landline Numbers with VoIP Power

Now, here’s where things get interesting: VoIP doesn’t mean the death of landlines. In fact, many businesses still have a “landline number,” but it’s powered by VoIP. So, when you call that trusted number, it may not be connecting through copper wire but instead through the internet. You get the best of both worlds: the trusted landline appearance, with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of modern technology.

This hybrid solution allows businesses to project reliability while still embracing the convenience and scalability of VoIP. And because VoIP numbers can be set up to look like landline numbers, businesses can appear local even when operating remotely or across multiple cities.

The Bottom Line

Landlines still hold a special place in our minds, evoking feelings of stability and trust. But VoIP has revolutionised how we communicate by breaking the chains of geography and offering flexibility like never before. The beauty of VoIP is that you don’t have to choose between tradition and innovation—you can have both, making and receiving calls wherever you are, while still enjoying the reliability associated with a landline number.

So, next time you see a landline number, you might wonder: is it a real landline, or is VoIP behind the scenes making it all happen? Either way, it’s a win for everyone involved.

At Simpatico we have a great landline replacement VoIP solution – Phoneline+. As well as being able to make and receive calls from multiple landline numbers from a PC or mobile app (or both!), you can easily set up custom on-hold music or schedule calls to divert to different places at different times of the day (e.g. voicemail, or another number entirely).

Phoneline+ also includes free calls to Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada & the Republic of Ireland – useful if you have business contacts or family in these countries and you want to present your landline number to them when you call. All this from only £9.95 per month. You can have a look at our VoIP for Business deal here.

The Best Business Mobile Phones In 2024

The Best Business Mobile Phones In 2024

In 2024, business smartphones continue to evolve, offering a range of advanced features designed to enhance productivity, security, and connectivity. With the increasing need for mobile work solutions, choosing the right smartphone has become critical for businesses. From foldable devices that turn into productivity hubs to budget-friendly options that deliver excellent value, there is a phone to suit every business need.

Here, we’ll explore the best business phones of 2024, examining flagship models like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and iPhone 16 Pro Max, known for their superior performance and cutting-edge features, as well as budget-friendly alternatives like the Samsung Galaxy A53, which offer powerful tools at an affordable price. Whether your priority is security, battery life, or multitasking capabilities, we’ll guide you through the top choices to help you equip your workforce with the best technology for the year ahead.

It would be easy to just say ‘the latest iPhone or Samsung Galaxy’, but every business is different with different needs. Here, we’ll look at which phone is right for your business.

Best Business Mobile For Content Production

iPhone 16 Pro Max

We’re already big fans of iPhones here at Simpatico, and have been very impressed by the iPhone 15. The big question for us this year, was whether the iPhone 16 Pro Max would be able to knock its predecessor out of our number 1 spot for best business mobile.

Well, it has. The upgraded iPhone may be a case of evolution rather than revolution, but we think that it provides enough quality-of-life enhancing features to justify its position as best business mobile for content production.

Firstly, the iPhone 16 Pro Max features a few improvements to its camera over the previous model. The 16 has the standard three camera options you’ve come to expect from Apple. Like the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 48MP f/1.8 main camera, and 12MP f/2.8 zoom lens with 5x optical zoom ans 25x digital zoom. The major improvement comes in the form of a 48MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera which is a huge upgrade on the 12MP version found on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Its excellent cameras make the iPhone 16 Pro Max a no-brainer for business users who rely on their device to create company content, such as taking photography for brochures, capturing images for the company’s social media feeds and even video footage if you want to be down with the kids and create TikToks. The f/1.8 main camera in particular performs incredibly well in low-light, letting you capture marketing-worthy images without the need to drag a lighting studio around with you.

With the inclusion of Apple Intelligence, business users have access to advanced photo editing capabilities at their fingertips – letting them perform crucial photo edits such as background removal, or cleaning up unwanted distractions from images.

But it’s not just photo editing where Apple Intelligence will benefit business users. Its ability to read large amounts of text in a short time, create summaries and make rewrites to text such as emails has the potential to save a tremendous number of working hours. Something that would previously require an computer can now potentially be done in minutes during the daily commute.

The chip has been updated this year to a lightning fast A18 Bionic Chip, and paired with 8GB of RAM for those intensive tasks, there’s very little you can throw at this phone that it won’t be able to handle. While these specs are slightly below the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 12GB of RAM, which takes the title of Best For Performance, we’re not sure that most users would notice any significant difference in day-to-day tasks.

This processor combined very well with the top-of-the-line camera and Apple Intelligence to allowing quick editing of images’ brightness, saturation, and even depth-of-field. The phone’s beefy specs will also allow you to run dedicated editing software such as Photoshop Express.

In short, it’s the go-to phone for those business users who want to create incredible marketing content which would have required dedicated professional-grade equipment only a few years ago. With the ability to perform all of your edits on the device, it’s no exaggeration to say that the iPhone can replace expensive PCs or Macbooks for many business users.

If your company requires the very best, then the iPhone 16 Pro Max is for you. We offer it in a 256GB or 512GB model on all of the major networks.

Best Business Mobile For Performance

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

Samsung’s powerful flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra is the major competitor to Apple’s iPhone. Out of the box, it boasts a bigger battery, slightly larger screen than the non-pro iPhones (although it is smaller than the iPhone 16 Pro Max), with AMOLED technology (compared to the iPhone’s OLED screen) and 12GB of RAM compared to just 8GB on the iPhone 16. However, higher specs don’t always translate to a better user experience, so let’s dive into what it’s like using the Galaxy 24 Ultra.

Business users who rely on taking exceptional photos for their company won’t be disappointed by the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It’s 200MP camera f/1.7 main camera combines with a 12MP f/2.2 selfie camera, a 3x optical zoom camera and a 50MP camera with 5x zoom. Wow – that’s a lot of cameras! Samsung also provide another ace in the hole: its AI editing features, which may come in handy if you need to quickly make changes to a photograph taken while you’re on business.

As for its performance, it contains a whopping 12GB of RAM and is paired with a top-of-the-range Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. It performs as you’d expect a high-end mobile to perform: superbly. If you’re into gaming in between work meetings, or utilise very heavy apps such as photo editing software, then this could be the perfect business mobile for you. Benchmarks show that the Galaxy S24 Ultra now outperforms even the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which makes this the top pick for those who demand the very best in terms of performance and speed.

If you spend a long time away from a power source, you’ll be pleased to learn that the Galaxy S24 Ultra has one of the best battery life benchmarks around, thanks to its 5,000mAh battery and its clever adaptive power saving mode, which learns how you use the device and adapts its power saving options to suit your needs.

If you’re a power user, and either don’t want an iPhone 16 Pro Max or don’t want to spend as much for one, then the Samsung Galaxy S24 is your best choice. We offer it in a 256GB or 512GB model on all of the major networks.

Best Business Mobile For Productivity

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

The second Samsung device in our ‘best business mobiles’ list, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the standout device of 2024, combining cutting-edge technology with a practical, productivity-oriented design. For business users who need more than just a phone, the Z Fold 5 delivers an unparalleled hybrid experience, acting as both a phone and a tablet, with a focus on multitasking, collaboration, and mobile productivity. In other words, it’s a phone you can get stuff done with. No more carrying a heavy laptop on the train so that you can work during the commute!

In case you’re unsure exactly what the Z Fold is, the clue is in the name. It’s a mobile phone which can unfold into a larger device, essentially turning your phone into a small tablet. The screen size becomes a little less than an iPad mini, but still provides plenty of screen real-estate to get work tasks done when you’re on the move and offers a much nicer experience than working from a traditional mobile phone.

Not only does its extra screen size help you to get those jobs off your to-do list, but its specification allows for multitasking and running heavy apps when needed. With 12GB of RAM, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, it’s able to handle tasks with ease. And back to the screen for a minute (I know, we’re going on but it’s really the standout feature), you can run 3 apps at the same time in split-screen mode. It’s hard for us to do justice to how much this improves your workflow until you try it out yourself.

Finally, it supports the S Pen so that you can take notes, annotate or edit documents on the screen without needing to carry another device, or a notepad, into your meetings.

With a 4,400mAh battery, it won’t last as long as Samsung’s other beast of a phone, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, but you will still get plenty of hours from it, comparable to most other high end business mobiles.

The Z Fold 6 has been released, with the same battery size and very similar cameras but slightly changed dimensions that make it wider. This may benefit those who type on their device, however we believe that the Z Fold 5 offers the best value in terms of performance and price.

For the best productivity, you can’t go wrong with the Z Fold 5. Business users will appreciate the folding display that allows them to get more work done when they’re on the move, without needing to carry extra devices around. It really is a game changer for business mobile users.

We offer the Samsung Z Fold 5 in a 256GB or 512GB model, with all of the major network providers.

Best Mid-Range Business Mobile

Google Pixel 8

It almost feels wrong to call the Pixel 8 a mid-range phone. Although it’s priced that way, its features and performance most definitely outperform its mid-range tag and we believe offer unrivalled balance between performance and price.

One way that it’s able to perform better than its specs would suggest is due to it’s clean Android experience. Business users will appreciate the interface, which comes without the bloatware often seen on other devices. Google’s software is optimised for speed and ease of use, allowing seamless switching between apps and workflows. And with the Pixel 8 being guaranteed to receive software updates for up to 7 years, you know that it will remain secure and up-to-date for the long term – incredibly valuable features for devices storing sensitive business data.

As expected, the Pixel 8 integrates perfectly with Google Workspace, making it an ideal choice for those who rely on Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets (Google’s answer to the Microsoft Office suite). The real-time collaboration features in Google Docs and Sheets work smoothly, ensuring business users can easily manage files and work with teams across the cloud.

In addition, the Live Translate feature is a major plus for professionals who frequently interact with international clients, offering real-time translation during meetings and conversations.

Google markets the Pixel 8 as an ‘AI phone,’ which may not mean a lot to most users, but we feel it shines when it comes to business use. Features like Call Screening can help filter out spam calls, while Voice Typing and Summarisation assist with transcribing notes or summarising long documents, making it easier to manage tasks on the go. These AI-driven features help save time and enhance productivity, which should be a major selling point.

One area where the Pixel 8 truly outperforms its price point is the camera. The Pixel 8’s camera is one of the best around, comparable to much higher-priced models such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max or Galaxy S24 Ultra, and even better in some cases. The excellent image quality is beneficial for business-related photo and video content, such as marketing materials, product photography, or even virtual meetings. Additionally, the high-quality video conferencing capability ensures clear video calls, which is essential for remote meetings and presentations.

Best Budget Mobile Phone For Business

Samsung Galaxy A53

The Samsung Galaxy A53 stands out as one of the best budget-friendly smartphones for business users in 2024. Offering an attractive balance of performance, features, and affordability, it is ideal for companies looking to provide their workforce with reliable devices without breaking the bank.

While it won’t compete with Samsung and Apple’s flagship phones in terms of raw power, it does offer great features for companies who don’t need a top-of-the-range device and whose staff mainly use their business phone for calls, messages and emails.

Firstly, its specs. It doesn’t include a Snapdragon processor that the Galaxy S24 has, but the A53’s Exynos chip and 6GB of RAM are more than enough for running standard business apps like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and project management tools. If you purchase this phone for your staff, they’ll be more than capable of getting essential work done, but don’t expect them to run intensive tasks such as data analysis, or media editing.

It features a more-than-capable 64MP f/1.8 main camera and 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera, alongside a further 12MP ultrawide and two 5MP cameras. These can film video in 4k, which may be handy for uploading to company social media profiles such as Instagram and Tik Tok. In the right conditions, the quality of image produced is good. However, if you want a device that can produce high quality marketing materials, for website and brochures for example, you’ll need to spend a bit more.

An area where the A53 really does shine is its superb battery life. Its 5,000mAh batter is the same size as those found in a Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, but without that model’s more demanding processes you can confidently get a whole day’s use out of the A53 without needing to charge. This makes it a great option for business users who travel a lot and may be without a power source.

A final feature that we love (and wish all phones included) is expandable storage. With up to 256GB of internal storage and a microSD slot that supports up to 1TB, employees can store large amounts of data, files, and documents on their phones without needing external storage devices. This is especially useful for businesses that handle large files such as presentations, videos, or product images.

We’d highly recommend the Galaxy A53 for businesses who don’t want to spend iPhone 15 or Galaxy S24 prices, but still need a device capable of letting employees get their important tasks done.

What To Look For In A Business Mobile Phone

Every business has its own unique demands from their mobile phones. For example, if you rely heavily on social media platforms like Instagram for your marketing, you’ll want to prioritise a great camera. Or perhaps your business mobiles double up to help get tasks done while on the move – in which case, screen size and a large enough memory to run multiple apps will be important.

If you must have an app that is available on Apple’s app store but isn’t available on Google Play, then immediately you’ve narrowed down your choice. But maybe your business doesn’t need the latest and greatest flagship models for your staff to get their work done. Sometimes, you just need to make calls and send messages.

When determining our ‘best of’ list, we considered the following factors:

Size

Size may not be everything, but can a business mobile phone be too large or too small? If you want your phone to fit into a small pocket, or you want to be able to use it one handed, then yes it can. A screen smaller than 5″ is going to suit you better.

If you regularly watch video on your phone, or edit and view documents like company spreadsheets, then larger screens on models will be better. Don’t forget, however, that bigger screens use up more power, so make sure the battery life can handle your usage.

Battery Life

When you hear some iPhone users complain that their phone won’t last the day without a top-up charge, you realise that battery life isn’t just a geeky specification to ignore. If you are on the move and frequently away from a power source, then poor battery life is a definite no-no. Personally, we like our phones to last the day at least. Having your company mobile shut down when its needed for essential work calls, emails and texts is something we can’t accept.

We also think about charging time which can be equally important in a business mobile if you’re on the move.

Storage

Do you need to store lots of documents or pictures on your phone? Or perhaps you’ve downloaded a bunch of Netflix videos to watch on the go, in those situations where the WiFi isn’t great? If so, storage is going to be crucial.

Many flagship phones nowadays don’t include expandable storage, such as a microSD slot, opting instead to offer more internal capacity. This on board storage can easily be taken up by a few apps and the operating system itself. If you take high resolution photos and video for your work, or download films and music for the commute, you could soon run out of storage space if you haven’t planned ahead.

If you store lots of data in the cloud this can be less of a problem, and with more and more 4G connections available across the UK this can be a practical solution. But if you’re in a poor signal area (or a heavy user and don’t want to pay a larger tariff because of your data usage), then some sort of expandable storage is worth considering. Apple phones don’t provide any external storage at all, so you have to buy the model you think you’ll need in the future. Many Android-based phones do include a microSD slot, however Samsung’s flagship Galaxy range has stopped including it as a standard feature.

Camera

If you take a lot of photos then pay close attention to the camera spec and, if possible, find any real-world reviews. Don’t be fooled by the number of megapixels – it’s way more important to have a great aperture (the lower this number, the better) and a sensor that can let in plenty of light for low-light photography.

As you’d expect in this situation, the top-of-the-range flagship iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models usually offer the best cameras overall for those who need the highest quality photos. However, cheaper models such as the Google Pixel 8 offer an almost comparable experience at a much lower price.

Processing Power

If you play a lot of games between business meetings, or use apps which are memory hungry, then a top of the range processor from Snapdragon (if you’re on Android) or an A16 Bionic chip (for iPhones), and at least 6GB of memory, are worth paying for.

But if most of the time you are making calls, sending texts and emails, and occasionally checking the weather, then why not choose a mid range smartphone and save your company money?

Below, we’ve listed what, in our opinion, are the best business mobiles for 2024 based on different needs. However, if you have your eye on a different model and don’t see it on the list, feel free to give us a call and we’ll happily advise you on the best deal for your business.

O2 UK Business phones – it’s usually best NOT to buy from the O2 business website

O2 UK Business phones – it’s usually best NOT to buy from the O2 business website

Buying O2 business phones direct from O2 UK – that seems the obvious way to go, doesn’t it? They’ll offer the best price, won’t they?

You’d think the answer to both of these questions would be, ‘yes’, but you could well be wrong.

As your business nears the end of a mobile phone contract, you might feel inclined to visit the O2 business shop to explore their phone deals, or to contact O2 business customer services. It’s natural to assume that the most competitive offers come directly from the network rather than through a dealer. However, this assumption is incorrect. You might think bypassing the middleman guarantees the best O2 business mobile contract, but that’s not the case! Take a moment to read this brief guide to learn why.

O2 UK business phones – what is the right tariff for you?

Business mobile phone dealers can offer you all the tariffs available on the O2 business website or by speaking to O2 business customer services, without any additional cost to your business. Simpatico can even put together bespoke tariffs for a specific amount of data, or with a specific bolt-on (eg international calling). While O2 might encourage you to choose a higher monthly tariff – their costs are fixed, so it’s in their interest to get you to buy more data than you need – an honest dealer will prioritize keeping your expenses low, which could result in a lower monthly bill than if you were to go directly through the O2 business shop.

In fact, a business mobiles dealer should have a vested interest in finding a tariff that provides the best value for you, rather than just chasing the highest commission. This approach fosters a long-term relationship where both the dealer and the client benefit. Unfortunately, the telecom industry has its share of dealers who may not always act in your best interest, with some salespeople tempted to push higher tariffs to earn bigger bonuses! (Hint- Simpatico doesn’t do that!)

Therefore, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of your recent usage and whether it’s likely to change during your next mobile phone contract. This knowledge will help you avoid being swayed by offers of extra data on a higher tariff, ensuring you don’t end up paying for something you don’t actually need.

Changing O2 tariffs mid-contract

Beware when you’re told you can change your O2 business tariff mid-contract without checking the small print. It may be you can ask for more data but not for less. Or you may find yourself inadvertently signing up for a longer contract period. But it’s a fact of life that things change, so whether or not you are on an O2 business contract or any other network, you may want to change your allowance. At Simpatico, because we build and invoice all the tariffs ourselves rather than just reselling O2 business contracts and receiving commission, then changing tariffs mid-contract is much easier.

What is the right O2 business handset for you?

Acquiring handsets as part of an O2 business deal can be appealing due to its simplicity, but there are several drawbacks to consider. For example:

  • Are you securing the best price for that specific handset? A reputable dealer should be able to find handsets at more competitive prices than those offered by O2 business.
  • Is there another handset or manufacturer which actually has a handset which would work better for you? It’s unlikely you’re going to get that sort of advice from O2 business, but a business mobile dealer will know more about specific handset pros and cons – eg the battery life or the camera quality.

Is an O2 business mobile even right for you?

You might be loyal to a particular network, but it may not be the best fit for your business needs. Even if you’ve had a poor experience with another network in the past, network coverage can change over time, so it’s worth reassessing the situation. For example, around our head office in Beverley, the quality of signal offered by the 4 networks has changed over the past few years, so what was good two years ago isn’t necessarily the best choice now.

The other thing to consider if you have more than one business mobile is do they need to be on the same network? At Simpatico we combine all four networks onto the same invoice, so you can be on a different network to your colleagues – this can be a game changer if you have wildly different signals where you are based.

You can use any of these pages below to check signal coverage in your area (though nothing compares to a real-world test—we have several test phones with different network SIMs to ensure the coverage maps are accurate!). Just copy and paste the address into a new tab on your browser:

EE: https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/mobile-coverage

O2: https://www.o2.co.uk/coveragechecker

Vodafone: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/network/status-checker

3: http://www.three.co.uk/Discover/Network/Coverage

And what about service from the O2 business website?

Unless you’re someone extremely important (like a member of the royal family or the latest winner of ‘Strictly’), the person on the other end of the O2 business customers services likely won’t know who you are – and, let’s be honest, probably isn’t even based in the UK. They won’t be familiar with your business or understand your specific needs when it comes to an O2 business phone.

This is where a (good) mobile dealer really shines. When our clients reach out to us at Simpatico, we take pride in offering a level of customer service rooted in long-term relationships. It might sound clichéd to say we believe in good, old-fashioned customer service, but we do. Knowing that a customer travels abroad a lot, or has staff in remote locations, or is always losing/breaking their phone is valuable information!

I want an O2 business mobile. Where should I get one?

As you’d expect, we’re going to advise you to view our range of business mobiles, where you can browse our latest handsets with some excellent tariffs (better than the O2 business shop, in fact). We can provide top-of-the-range models like the Apple iPhone 15 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, or Z Fold5 for power users. If you need devices will less fancy features, for calling, messaging and browsing the web then we have budget-friendly handsets such Samsung A04s and older iPhone models that still pack a punch.

Don’t need a new handset? We can cater for you, with our O2 business mobile SIM only plans, available for 12 or 24 months with a range of data allowances from 5GB up to unlimited usage.

We have some great tariffs available for O2, as well as the other major networks. We’re confident of securing you the very best deal for your next business mobile.

Is Vodafone Business the right choice for you?

Is Vodafone Business the right choice for you?

If you assumed that the Vodafone Business Shop was the place to go for the lowest price on business phones, you could easily be wrong.

Should You Buy Business Mobiles Directly From Vodafone?

If your company is heading towards the end of its mobile phone contract, you’ll probably have been shopping around for a new deal. Naturally, you’ll want to ensure that you get the best service at the lowest price. It’s a common belief that going directly to the network will bring you the lowest price. After all, surely a business mobile dealer adds their own markup to the price?

Well, here’s how a mobile phone provider such as Simpatico can offer the same great phones that the networks provide, at a lower price. And with exceptional service, from nice people, too.

Should you buy direct from Vodafone Business or use a 3rd party like Simpatico?

There are two types of independent dealers here:

  • Those who sell you a Vodafone Business plan, receive commission from Vodafone and then hand you over to the network for customer service, billing, etc.
  • Those who operate their own network tariffs, control customer service and billing so that you never actually deal with the network directly – such as us at Simpatico.

Obviously we’d say it’s better to talk to us! But there are a lot of clear advantages to using an independent dealer for your business mobiles.

Benefits of Using an Independent Operator like Simpatico:

Lower Prices or Better Deals:

Independents like Simpatico can offer better pricing or more competitive deals, especially if they are bundling handsets with business contracts. They might also provide more flexibility in negotiating terms. Although some Vodafone salespeople are allowed to offer discounts, their pricing structure can be a lot more rigid.

More Flexibility in Mobile Business Contracts:

Independent dealers offer more flexible contract options, including shorter terms, rolling contracts, or custom deals, which can be advantageous for businesses that don’t want to commit to a long-term Vodafone contract.

Personalised Service:

Some (but not all!) independents can provide a more personalised, hands-on service, especially for smaller businesses. They often offer local support and might spend more time advising you on the best options for your specific business needs. For example, here at Simpatico we’re not tied to a particular network and we don’t have incentives to offer particular plans.

Multi-Network Options:

Simpatico offers packages from multiple networks (including Vodafone). This gives you the ability to compare Vodafone plans with other carriers like EE or O2 and choose the best value for your business, mixing networks to match the best signal for different employees.

Should You Use Vodafone Business At All?

By visiting this page and reading this far, it’s fair to assume that you’re very interested in Vodafone business contracts. But have you considered whether Vodafone is the right network for you? If you haven’t, here’s a few things you should have a think about.

Pros of Vodafone Business UK:

Wide Coverage:

Vodafone has extensive network coverage across the UK, particularly in urban areas. It has 99% population coverage for 4G services and is actively expanding its 5G network. That said, all the networks claim coverage of 99% of the population, but that doesn’t stop calls from sometimes dropping!

5G Availability:

Vodafone was one of the first providers to roll out 5G in the UK. It has a growing 5G network that offers faster speeds and lower latency in many cities. If you’re interested in the 5G signal where you are, you could try Vodafone’s Network Status Checker.

International Roaming (Global Roaming):

Vodafone offers a “Global Roaming” feature that allows users to use their UK plan abroad in 51 “Roam-free” destinations without extra charges, which is great for frequent travellers.

Business Plans and Enterprise Solutions:

Vodafone offers a range of business-specific plans, making it popular with corporate clients. Their strong enterprise solutions, like cloud and IoT services, are a major advantage for businesses who want to improve and streamline their operations.

Cons of Vodafone Business UK

Network Speeds in Rural Areas:

While Vodafone excels in urban areas, users in more rural or remote regions might experience slower speeds or weaker signals compared to competitors like EE. Here at our head office in Beverley, we sometimes experience a weak signal in the southern parts of the town.

Pricing:

Vodafone’s plans can be more expensive compared to some budget providers or MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators). Their premium pricing may not suit users looking for cost-effective business mobile plans.

Data Plans and Throttling:

Vodafone throttles speeds after reaching certain data usage thresholds, even on “unlimited” data plans. This can be frustrating for heavy data users. We do have a solution for heavy users though: there is no throttling on Simpatico’s bespoke Vodafone plans.

Customer Service Complaints:

Vodafone has historically received complaints about customer service, particularly regarding billing issues, long wait times, and difficulties in resolving problems. However, this is only when dealing direct with Vodafone Business – if you use a company like Simpatico, we control all of the billing and provide bespoke reports on usage, etc., and operate as your first and only point of contact. A lovely, smooth experience when you’re dealing with nice people.

Inconsistent 5G Coverage:

Although Vodafone UK is expanding its 5G network, coverage can still be patchy in many areas. Users in smaller towns or less populated regions may not yet benefit from 5G services.

What if you’ve decided Vodafone UK is the right network for your business?

You won’t be shocked to learn that we’re going to advise you to visit our online business mobile shop, where you can browse a range of the latest handsets: including flagship models like the iPhone 16 Pro Max, Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, or Z Fold5 to more budget-friendly options such as the Samsung A04s and iPhone models that may not be the latest, but still perform amazingly well.

We have some great tariffs available for Vodafone, as well as the other major networks. We’re confident of securing you the very best deal for your next business mobile.

Hidden Travel Charges and How to Avoid Them

Hidden Travel Charges and How to Avoid Them

Are you going on holiday this summer to a place which borders another country? Did you know it’s possible for your phone to connect automatically to the network of a neighbouring country and – potentially – result in unforeseen charges? Even more seriously, we have seen examples of phones connecting automatically to a maritime network, where charges can be horrendous.

The problem is that most of us have our phones set to select a network automatically.

On my Samsung that can be found in Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators:

On an iPhone it’s Settings > Mobile Service > Network Selection:

In most situations that is absolutely fine. But imagine you are travelling to (Southern) Cyprus on holiday. Cyprus is part of the EU, so on our Simpatico O2 tariffs you would be able to access your UK allowance and make calls within Cyprus and back to the UK at no extra charge (on EE, Vodafone or Three it would cost £2/day). But if you were to travel near the border with the Turkish occupied territory of the Republic of Cyprus, it’s possible your phone might automatically connect to a Turkish network because the signal was stronger, even though you had not crossed the border – at which point charges could be much higher, depending on the network.

Or what if you were to visit French Guiana on holiday? Although it is in South America, it is legally part of France – and so on O2 you would continue to benefit from roaming at no additional charge. But if you were travelling very near the border, your phone might automatically connect to a network in Suriname or Brazil, and charges would start being applied.

Is there a solution? Yes, there is. If you think this could happen to you, then you can temporarily set your phone to connect to a network manually. This means that if the signal drops on that network your phone will stop receiving data, calls, etc, but it will also prevent it from automatically jumping onto a neighbouring country’s network. Just turn the toggle to Manual in the settings above and select a network (if you’re not sure which one to choose, check which network you connected to automatically when you arrived before you make the change). Once you’re back in the UK, set it back to automatic.

Holiday Power

Holiday Power

Now that holiday season is in full swing, mobile phone battery life is really important.  You might think going on holiday is a chance to escape from the attachment you have to your mobile phone, however, there are plenty of things that a mobile phone is really useful for whilst on holiday, such as taking holiday snaps, maps for navigation, google translate, and obviously as a communication device, plus it probably has all your booking details stored.  So you really need it to last the distance whilst you’re away from home, and potentially away from a plug socket for extended periods of time.

If you think your battery is not performing as well as it should be – it could be draining too quickly, or dropping a significant percentage even when it’s on standby, don’t panic.  Often it can be an easy fix by doing a few simple things on your device to perk it back up again.

Switch off your Phone

Sometimes it can be as simple as turning your phone off then back on again, this can clear background processes and give your battery a fresh start.

Remove Widgets

If you have widgets (the bigger tiles with more information) on your lock screen and home screen it means that the apps they are connected to are constantly running in the background, fetching data to keep the widgets up to date.  So removing the widgets (even if they are handy) will help to improve battery life.

Background App Refresh

Background App Refresh allows the apps on your phone to automatically search for new content even if they’re not directly running on the screen, and this can be a drain on the battery.  Handily, the iPhone has a feature where you can individually turn off Background App Refresh for each app.

To find it go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh – this will bring up a list of your apps, and then simply toggle the slider to on or off.  Any apps which you have turned Background App Refresh off, will only go online for new information when you open the app.  Be careful about doing this for any apps you rely on for up to date content.

Something else useful here is a field at the top of Background App Refresh page which can be changed to alter how the function works globally – you can choose from Off, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi & Mobile Data – the latter will consume mobile data if you’re away from Wi-Fi, so it’s something to be mindful of if you are on a limited data contract, and perhaps switch it to Wi-Fi only, so that apps only background refresh when you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Delete Unused Apps

Apps in general take up battery power, so even if you don’t use them, they may be using a portion of your battery, so have a look through and get rid of any that you don’t use.  This will also free up storage space.

Dim the Screen

If your screen is set to its brightest setting, it’s going to use battery power.  To change this on iPhone go to Settings > Display & Brightness, then simply drag the slider across to dim the screen.  You can also activate dark mode from this screen too.

To automatically set your phone to adjust brightness itself, on iPhone go to Settings > Display & Text Size, then scroll down to the bottom to find Auto-Brightness – switch this on and the screen brightness will automatically adjust for current light conditions using the built-in ambient light sensor

Update to the Latest Software

This is a no brainer in general really, mobile devices generally function better when the latest software update is installed.  However, you may be wondering what this will do to improve the battery life; well, software updates may include optimizations and power saving features to extend the life of the battery.

Consider a Power Bank

If you have completed all of the above steps and your battery is still draining too quickly, consider purchasing a portable power bank.  These are handy devices which you charge up at home and they can be used to power electronic devices on the go, it’s a straightforward way of ensuring you are not left with a dead mobile phone battery whilst out and about.  They are usually about the size of a modern mobile phone, so don’t take up much room in your pocket or bag.  Some phones can also charge from each other either wirelessly or with the appropriate cable.  It may be worth checking with your travelling companions before you go.  It could be absolutely worth it if it allowed you to access your boarding pass!
