iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo: what do they mean for your business?

Apple’s latest iPhones give businesses something new to consider. Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple has introduced the iPhone Duo, its first folding iPhone. One builds on a familiar design; the other opens up new possibilities for working on a mobile. And voth are very much at the top end of what a business would budget for a new phone.

Of course, a new phone needs to do more than look impressive at a launch event. For business owners, the question is whether it will make the working day easier and justify the cost.

iPhone 18 Pro: improvements where they count?

The iPhone 18 Pro comes with Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, improved cooling and a 48MP main camera with variable aperture. In everyday language, that means more processing power and a camera that can adjust how much light it lets in, giving greater control over photographs in different conditions.

There are two sizes: the 6.3-inch Pro and the larger 6.9-inch Pro Max. Apple quotes up to 43 hours of video playback for the Pro Max, although actual battery life will depend on how you use it. Calls, navigation and mobile hotspot use will produce different results.

For someone photographing completed installations, recording product demonstrations or creating social media content, the camera improvements could be useful. If your phone doubles as your company’s camera, that deserves consideration when choosing an upgrade.

For someone mainly answering calls and checking emails, the case for buying the latest Pro is less compelling. An existing model will most likely tick all the right boxes.

iPhone Duo: more room to work

The Duo is the bigger change. It opens to reveal a 7.6-inch display and supports Split View, allowing two apps to run side by side. Apple demonstrates this with Photos and Mail, where you can drag a picture directly into an email. It also uses the A20 Pro chip.

That could be useful for people who regularly work between appointments. A larger screen may make a document easier to read, give you more space to review a proposal with a customer or reduce the frustration of constantly switching between apps.

Our view is that the Duo deserves a closer look if screen space is something you regularly miss when working away from your desk. But there are many Android based foldable phones which are significantly cheaper and arguably just as powerful, from manufacturers such as Samsung and Oppo.

Apple lists pre-orders from 16 October, with availability from 23 October 2026.

Does everyone in your business need the same phone?

It is tempting to choose one model and order it for the whole team. But different roles have different requirements.

Someone producing marketing content may benefit from the Pro’s camera. A colleague who spends much of the week visiting customers might see more value in the Duo’s screen. An office-based employee with a reliable handset may be perfectly well served by keeping it and reviewing their SIM-only deal.

For a business with 20 or 30 mobiles, those individual decisions can make a meaningful difference to the overall budget.

The handset is only part of the decision

Before upgrading, look at the complete package: the handset cost, contract length, network coverage, data allowance and support.

Think about where people actually work, too. A phone used mainly on office Wi-Fi has different requirements from one regularly used for tethering a laptop between site visits.

At Simpatico, we believe a mobile review should start with your business and how your team works. That gives you a much better basis for choosing a handset and tariff than simply picking the newest model.
