Have an ‘Appy weekend?

What can you do if you provide your staff with phones but you don’t want them to use them during working hours to chat on Twitter or search for funny cat videos on YouTube? You could block them from using these sorts of apps entirely, but that could seem harsh if you provide the phone as a benefit and then, come the weekend, they still can’t relax in front of their screen.

2 solutions which you could implement using Mobile Device Management (MDM) are:

  • Restrict usage of an app based on location (geofencing). For example, you could block usage of particular apps in and around your sites/offices, but allow it once they’ve left that zone.
  • Restrict based on time. For example, you could block usage of particular apps during working hours, leaving them as much time as they want at weekends and evenings to catch up on all that celebrity gossip.
