Our Vodafone and O2 tariffs have access to a great product called World Travel Select – you can access your UK data allowance, make calls and texts within the country you’re visiting and to/from the UK for a set price of £5 per day. This gives you peace of mind before you travel, knowing there will be a fixed daily fee with no unpleasant surprise charges. But not all countries are covered!
Take a look at this map and see how most countries in the Caribbean are covered by World Travel Select, but two popular tourist destinations are not – Cuba and The Bahamas.
If you use a significant amount of data when not connected to wifi in either of these countries you could rack up some horrific charges! A typical film on a streaming service like Netflix could be 2GB of data. In Cuba on O2, at £10.80 per MB, that would come to a total cost of £22,118. In the Bahamas it would ‘only’ cost £369.
Our clients have automatic bill limits in place, but when roaming there can be a delay in usage in remote destinations feeding through to the network in the UK – so beware of using your phone when roaming without considering the potential costs. If in doubt, talk to us before you travel!
