Simpatico’s 3rd Tip of Christmas is written in curly white font at the top of the image. The background is dark blue, and around the bottom edge are some iced gingerbread biscuits, in the shape of stars, bells and a gingerbread man. There is also a bundle of cinnamon sticks and a dusting of icing sugar. In the centre of the image are the Northern Lights which is a shimmery green haze. The Simpatico logo is in the bottom corner and is wearing a jolly red Christmas hat. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.

Tip 3 – Northern Lights

If you long to see the Northern Lights on a crisp winter’s evening, you may be able to see them from the UK.  They are often visible by the naked eye or by camera from all over the UK.  These two apps on your phone can help: AuroraWatch UK which can send you alerts when there is high likelihood of being able to see the Lights.  A second app, Glendale, needs to be downloaded from the website, it is not in the App Store: aurora-alerts.uk  The beauty of Glendale is that members sign in and give live feedback if they can see the lights which builds up on the map in real time so you get a very clear idea of whether the lights are visible.  Work out a northward looking place with low light pollution, then take that shot with the camera on your phone! If you are keen, it is probably worth investing in a tripod.
