Going on holiday abroad? Remember to check about mobile phone costs!
One of our customers is travelling to Costa Rica, and she rang in to check what she should do about mobile costs whilst she was there. Each network has slightly different rules about what is already included in your tariff, and which countries will cost extra – and it is not always obvious!
If you are on one of our tariffs, the following countries are INCLUDED in your tariff (at time of going to press 😊)
Austria, Belgium, Canary Islands, Croatia, Cyprus (excluding Turkish sector), Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Territories (French Guiana/Guadeloupe/Martinique/Mayotte/Reunion and St Martin), Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, (incl Vatican City), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, Spain (incl Balearic Islands), Sweden. Also Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Faroe Islands, San Marino, Switzerland.
(Please note that Turkey is not counted as part of Europe)
Usually, add-on packages are available for countries other than these which will give the same minutes, texts and data that you would get in the UK. You still need to be careful about making other international calls and keeping within your data allowances whilst away.
Three top tips:
- Switch your phone off altogether and just lie on the beach and have a digital holiday
- Check mobile data and data roaming are switched off in settings
- Don’t watch films on Netflix or similar on your phone – they are cash assassins! If you must, quadruple check you are connected to wifi
Check before you go, because some places (eg the Maldives) you can’t even get an add-on package and costs can soon mount up to literally thousands of pounds if you watch films.
